A Treat for You for Women’s Month and Purim!

The Two Women Who Saved the Jews of Ancient Persia from Annihilation

Zoom Lecture by Ephrat Dvir
Thursday March 21, 2024 at 7 PM – 8:30 PM EST

The Jewish Deaf Congress proudly presents Ephrat Dvir, a fabulous storyteller who transforms dry verses to fascinating spiritual stories.

Purim is probably one of the Jewish holidays where women are the center of the plot and the ones who persist and change the course of history. BOTH Vashti and Esther’s transformation and actions (both passive and active) influenced the lives and history of Jews. Through Ephrat, you will learn more about Vashti the queen and understand better Esther’s transformation.

Ephrat Dvir, a Deaf Israeli woman, was born into a hearing family. One of her two sisters is also Deaf. Ephrat is a pioneer who has broken the glass ceiling in Israeli society: Ephrat was the first deaf officer in IDF (and as a result later many deaf persons were able to became officers in IDF too). Upon her release from IDF, Ephrat went to law school and became the first deaf lawyer in Israel. She has many specializations in the field of medicine and in the field of the Land of Israel (history, geography, culture and of course the Tanach aka Torah, Prophets and the Writings).

Efrat’s style is through the Midrash – learning the Torah, Neviim (Prophets) and Ketuvim (The Writings) through a narrative dimension to discover the deeper and hidden layers of the Hebrew Bible’s stories, not only by the dry verses but by the spirit of the people involved.
