Join us for a 6 week course taught by Ephrat Dvir about the Deaf Community in Israel.

1. Deafness in Judaism – past and present
What is the Torah and Halacha’s approaches toward deaf people and deafness in the past and nowadays?

2. The birth of Israeli Sign Language and its development during the years.

3. Deaf Arab identity and deaf minority groups in Israel – dual identities.

4+5. Deaf community in Israel – education, population, Israel Defense Army (IDF), how managing living through wars and arm conflicts l, LGBT deaf community and more.

6. Deaf orthodox in Israel : a window to a unique and not familiar ‘deaf community’: their struggles, Barriers, stigmatization, managing marriages and families.

We require minimum of 10 enrolled or the course will be cancelled and payments refunded.

  • Session Duration: 1.5 hours (90 minutes)
  • Live Session Time: 1 PM EST (8 PM Israel Time)
  • Scheduling of Live Sessions: 10/13 and 11/17, with one more session’s date TBD.
  • Pre-recorded Session Delivery: TBD (either email with Zoom discussion or live broadcast on Zoom)
