Our program, facilitated by the Jewish Deaf Congress (JDC), ensures an accessible and meaningful experience through American Sign Language (ASL) taught by talented Deaf instructors who use ASL.

Daniel Israilov

Hebrew & Israeli Sign Language Instructor

With keen attention to detail and a mastery of Visual Vernacular, Daniel Israilov will be your guide in exploring Hebrew and Israeli Sign Language (ISL). Born in Kazakhstan and nurtured artistically in New York, Daniel brings a rich cultural tapestry to his teaching. His expertise in multiple languages and storytelling techniques will deepen your understanding of Jewish texts and prayers through Hebrew, while his captivating use of ISL will enrich your connection to Jewish customs. You and your family will Immerse yourselves in this unforgettable experience of a comprehensive and engaging journey into Jewish traditions spanning a total of 20 classes awaiting you, packed with knowledge, connection, and growth, each conducted once a week for an hour. Our online platform, Zoom, allows you to participate from the comfort of your home or preferred location, promoting convenience and flexibility for you, your family, and Deaf instructors.

Mitzvah Ceremony Planning Sessions with Families

We understand the significance of the Bar/Bat/B’nai Mitzvah ceremony for every family. As part of our program, we offer two sessions for parents and child/children to actively participate in shaping the vision and personalization of the Mitzvah ceremony. These sessions will be scheduled after the completion of the 20 classes, providing ample time for reflection and collaboration.

Culmination

The Bar/Bat/B’nai Mitzvah

After completing the 20 classes, you will have gained a profound understanding of Jewish traditions and culture. Our program culminates with the joyous Bar/Bat/B’nai Mitzvah ceremony, where each participant will demonstrate their newfound knowledge and understanding of Judaism. Deliver a heartfelt sermon and potentially read from the Torah using ASL, symbolizing your child/children’s transition into Jewish adulthood.
