Lecture Description: This lecture explores the often overlooked history of the Deaf Jewish community in Europe, with a focus on Germany, from the period following the March Revolution of 1848 until the tragic events leading to the destruction of the Deaf Jewish world through the rise of National Socialism in 1933. Attendees will gain insights into the emergence of Deaf Jewish infrastructure, the establishment of the Association of Deaf Jews in Germany in 1896, and the formation of the World Association of Deaf Jews in 1931. The lecture will shed light on the challenges and triumphs of this vibrant community while paying tribute to their resilience in the face of adversity.
