JDC Statements condemning Terrorism

✨ JDC Statements condemning Terrorism✨

Jewish D eaf Congress, Inc. (JDC) is heartened by the outpouring of solidarity with Israel in the aftermath of the barbarous Hamas, an Iran-backed terrorist organization, attack on October 7, 2023.

We are devastated by the numerous lives of Jews, Gazans, foreigners, and others who the Hamas massacre has impacted. These people have been killed in their homes, held captive, injured, and/or forced to leave for their safety. Like other nations, JDC supports Israel’s right to defend itself against any terrorist organization whose purpose is to deny the existence of Jewish people.

JDC joins in solidarity with the United States, Israel, and other countries condemning antisemitic attacks, which foreshadows a troubling time ahead:
* In the United States, there have been more than 100 antisemitic incidents since October 7, 2023.
* In the United Kingdom, there has been a 500% increase in documented antisemitic incidents.
* In France, the Minister of Interior reported 189 antisemitic incidents, which led to 65 arrests.
* In Berlin, Germany, Stars of David were painted on the homes of Jews.
* At anti-Israel protests, we have seen slogans justifying the Hamas massacre and deeply disturbing antisemitic images and rhetoric.
* “Gas the Jews” was shouted in Sydney, Australia.
* Chants about the “army of Muhammed” coming for “the Jews” were heard in London and Geneva.
* Protesters stood outside a shabbat service in Washington, DC, chanting “Free Palestine.”
* In South Africa, Jewish-owned businesses are threatened with boycotts.
* In Russia, mobs burned the almost constructed Jewish temple and were looking to harm Jewish people who were traveling from Israel.

In light of these alarming trends, JDC appeals to our families, friends, allies, business leaders, elected officials, and leaders around the world to take the following actions:
1. Continue to condemn antisemitism. Antisemitism is not to be tolerated, not on the streets, in speeches, propaganda, and/or via social media platforms.
2. Secure and support Jewish communities and their institutions.
3. Prosecute perpetrators of antisemitic incidents to the full extent of the law.
4. Do Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, provide education and resources to students and communities about antisemitism, diversity, and commonalities.
