About Jewish Deaf Congress

Administrator February 12, 2007 - כ"ד שבט תשס"ז

The Jewish Deaf Congress, Inc., today is a vibrant organization, serving persons who are Jewish and Deaf or Hard of Hearing primarily in North America. Our mission is to provide religious, cultural, and educational experiences. Our people include those who became deaf before acquiring language, those who became deaf later in life, and those who are hard of hearing. Parents join our organization, as do grandparents. Some with our deaf constituents represent a community of interpreters or educators, and rabbis, or perhaps even children or siblings or just friends of deaf adults.

Through our JDC Quarterly, we keep our constituency informed of events in our world. Our publications arm also offers materials for use by our constituency in the home and serves our community by providing information on interpreting services for all of North America. Our Special Interest Groups allow us to create new programming and attempt to serve the myriad needs of our diverse communities. We provide leadership and vision to our regional affiliates in spiritual, ethical, and political issues.

JDC, Inc., also serves Jewish deaf and hard of hearing persons all over the world through our biennial conferences. We encourage in our community pluralism - whether Orthodox, Conservative, Reform or Reconstructionist - we are all an essential part of Klal Yisrael- the worldwide community of Jewry.

As an organization, we join the larger Jewish community in our dedication to tikkun olam - the healing of the world. We invite you to get to know us.
